Welcome to Museum Sabah

Sabah Museum
- Immerse yourself in the pages of history.

Wonder at the beauty of traditional Sabah architecture when you visit the three main buildings of the Museum. The main Building traces Sabah's historical development, inclusive of the Shell company's exhibit at the Science Center, while the Sabah Art Gallery showcases the masterpieces of Sabah's talented artists. The Museum's exhibits also include five life-size replicas of Sabah's traditional ethnic and community houses and a garden of native medicinal plants.

For a view of colonial edifices, visit the Atkinson Clock Tower at Brace Hill. Built in 1902 as a memorial by the mother of the First District Officer of Jesselton, as Kota Kinabalu was then known, it is one of the few buildings left standing after the devastation of World War II on Sabah.

Stroll on next to Gaya Street, known in its heyday as Bond Street, where the pre-war heritage Sabah Tourism Building stands. Built in 1918 to house goverment offices, a role which it still plays today, it was gazetted a Historial Building in 1988. In 1991, it reopened to its former glory after an extensive restoration exercise and today, is an excellent showcase of early 1900's colonial architecture. Catch the Gaya Street Fair on Sundays where interesting sights, sounds and bargains abound.
